Activate Windows 2008 Server via phone

You’re attempting to activate Windows 2008 using the online option but receive an error due to being behind a firewall or proxy.

Assuming you’ve entered your product key, you can manually run the Windows Activation Client from the command prompt. Issue the below command and it will start the activation client in phone activation mode.

Access command prompt, type the below command and hit enter.

Powerpoint icon appears when launching Outlook

When launching a remote desktop or Citrix session (Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 7), you find that when launching an application such as Outlook, the icon at the bottom of the task bar is Power Point instead of the Outlook icon.

You receive the below message when attempting to Remote Desktop onto your server or servers.

The grace period for the Remote Desktop Session Host server  has expired

You have configured a license server and inputted a new license key but still unable to remote desktop.

Resolution:

Assign the license server via Group Policy:

1) Launch Group Policy and locate the policy you wish to amend
2) Browse to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
3) Define the settings as below

  • Use the specified Remote Desktop License Server
  • Set the Remote Desktop Licensing mode
