How to check server is global catalog

To locate your global catalog server(s) within a network, follow the instructions below:

1) Click Start
2) Program Files
3) Click Administrative Tools
4) Click Active Directory Sites and Services
5) Expand Active Directory Sites and Services
6) Expand Sites
7) Expand Site-name
8.) Expand Servers
9) Expand server name
10) Right click NTDS Setting
11) Click properties
12) Check to see Global Catalog is enabled. If yes, you have located one of your Global Catalog servers.

  1. If you just stop at the servers folder under you site (Sites->default: Default-First-Site-Name->Servers) you can see all the GC under DC type in that window.
